Why You Need Social Media for Your Business
If you’ve ever thought “My business is already successful, I don’t need to use social media,” this is for you.
Even if you have a successful business that runs on hand shakes and referrals, you shouldn’t be ignoring social media.
Often, we think of social media as a place to grow your network and get cold leads (potential new clients that you don’t know). This is typically synonymous in our mind with posting every single day and spending lots of ad dollars.
You can use social media this way. But you don’t have to.
What if you just used it as a way to:
Make a great first impression
Show the world you are open for business
Help your warm leads or referrals take the next step - by giving you a call or sending you a message
A Landing Place on the Internet
These days, people are using social media as a form of Google. They are using it to look you up, check you out, and see how you size up to your competition. At the very least, your social media accounts should give your potential clients a place to land and get to know you.
This is why brand matters! Having an updated - and on brand - page lets your target audience get to know you before even meeting you! This is huge in helping you build know, like, and trust with your audience and motivating them to choose you over your competitors.
Do a quick audit of your accounts! Do they showcase who you are, what it is like to work with you and your expertise? Do you make it easy for them to contact you?
Building Social Proof and Trust
Your social media accounts not only help potential clients get to know you, but also builds a level of social proof and trust for your community. When your potential clients see positive testimonials from your past clients - and that you are a real person - it gives them peace of mind in working with you and jumping in on your services. Building social proof takes time. It is like building a reputation - but in the online space. Which leads us to our next point…
Consistency Wins
No, you don’t have to post on social media everyday. But you do need to post consistently (a minimum of two times a week) over a long period of time. This shows your audience that you are “open for business” and that you aren’t going anywhere.
It’s not just about posting consistently - it’s about posting authentically. Keep in mind that your followers would rather scroll through personalized posts about you and your services, then posts that are generic. They want to get to know you!
The consistency you show up with builds trust for your potential clients, and can even increase referrals for your current clients.
If you’ve been ignoring social media, it’s time to shift your perspective. Think about social media as a billboard! It doesn’t have to be updated daily, but it does have to be on-brand and speak to your target audience.
Your potential clients are using it. And if you are not, you’re most likely losing them to your competitors who are.
