Understanding Instagram’s Algorithm
You’ve probably heard all about Instagram’s algorithm. But what does it really do and how does it really work? But most importantly, how does it really matter for you, a business owner trying to grow online.
What Is An Algorithm?
Instagram’s algorithm is a system. This system is used to determine the order in which content is displayed in your feed. Essentially, this algorithm is trying to feed users interesting content that will make them stay or keep coming back to the app.
How You Can Please The Algorithm In 2025
As a business owner, your job isn’t to be a social media manager. But, here’s what you need to know about staying on top of Instagram in 2025:
Focus on Authentic Engagement
By now, everyone knows whether comments are genuine or not. So to keep your content in front of your target audience, make sure you respond to comments, ask questions in captions of other’s content, and prioritize meaningful conversations. Keep in mind that real conversations you’re having with people online will help you reach your goals much faster than any number of likes will. I recommend spending 5-10 minutes a day authentically engaging with your followers and target audience. Leave a comment, reply to their story, send them a DM.
Use Diverse Content Formats
Switching up the type of content you create can help the algorithm push your content towards more of your target audience. If you’ve been sticking to posting on stories, the new year is the time to try Reels, or carousel posts.
Post Consistently
Posting consistently might be one of the hardest parts about being a business owner who shares on social media. But when you have a simple strategy, showing up consistently becomes so much easier. Decide what consistent means to you (posting 3x a week vs. 5 times a week) and stick to it!
Analyze What Resonates
To determine how any new posting schedule or online strategy is working, one of the best things you can do is measure! To track your progress, make sure you’re keeping track of important metrics such as saves, shares, and comments. Keeping a pulse on how certain pieces of your content are doing can help you know where to adjust your strategy, or what to share more of.
Although staying relevant to Instagram’s ranking strategy is important, what’s most important is that your content resonates with your target audience. If you have questions on how to hone in on your target audience and make your content magnetic, it’s time for a discovery call.
