The Number One Reason Business Owners Waste Time on Social Media
For business owners, getting caught up in the nitty gritty of everything it takes to operate successfully becomes difficult. Trust me, as a business owner, I know! Like with anything in business, initiatives are likely to fail without a plan. The same mindset applies to social media.
Although it might feel like a burden to you as a business owner when you’re first starting, with a simple plan, your social media can be used as a force for your business.
If you chronically don't know what to post, often stare at your screen, and end up either not posting or posting something just for the sake of posting (and then not seeing results) - this blog is for you!
Follow these steps to create a very simple posting plan and know exactly what you are going to post when and where so you can avoid wasting time on social media:
Gather All Your Ideas
The first step in getting organized on social media is to put all your ideas into one place. Gather anything you’ve brainstormed, inspiration, testimonials, etc that you believe could be used on social media and place them into one document. I recommend an excel sheet that you can organize by themes of content, but we’ll get to that below.
If you’re short on ideas, conduct a content brainstorm by going through your website, previous presentations, and collateral to find information that could tell your story as a business.
Group Your Ideas Into Buckets
It’s time to get organized! Take the document with all of your ideas for social and organize it into buckets or themes. For example, put all of your ideas that tell your story or teach a potential customer about your business together and label them as ‘brand’ or ‘who we are posts.’
Assign Your Buckets to Days of the Week
Now comes the fun part! Once you’ve done the first two steps, you can decide which days of the week you should share your specific pieces of content with your audience. For example, maybe you share a testimonial every Tuesday. Take note of your businesses recurring events and plan your content around them. If you host weekly webinars, choose a day of the week that you use to advertise those events.
Use a Content Calendar
Now that you know how to go about creating a simple social media strategy that works, you’re going to need a way to keep it all organized. I recommend using a content calendar so you know exactly what you are going to post, when.
